No Cry Sleep Solution

Guess what I found Ellyette doing today?

Yep.  Pondering the wise logic of “No Cry Sleep Solution” by Elizabeth Pantley.  It still to this day is one of the only child rearing books that I have read from start to finish.  Did her sleep solution methods work for little Ellyette you might wonder?
So what did work to finally get our little angel sleeping though the night?
We pretty much tried everything.  And by the way, thank you Dr. Ferber for the month long arguments between Ben and myself while we implemented your “cry it out method.”  Nothing like bringing a couple together like the heightened stress of hearing your baby cry for an hour.  For a month.
But alas, what about filling her little belly with a bottle before putting her down?  Did we try that?  You bet.  It worked for like three hours before she was up and hungry.
How about the routine method?  You know, training her to “understand” that the end of the evening was for the four “b’s,” bath, books, breastfeeding and then bed.  We tried that too, minus the books part of it.  But we clearly didn’t have the “ah ha” moment associated with “bath” and “sleep through the night.”  Bummer.
Ending our co-sleeping marathon at 8 months was what I thought would finally do the trick.  Nope.  No such luck.
But she does sleep through the night now (most of the time).  And she finally started napping for longer than a half hour twice a day as well.  So what was the final trick that we pulled out of our hat to encourage this magical behavior?
In my opinion, Ellyette decided that she had spent enough time showing us who was really head of household and decided to ease up a little bit.  Either that or God didn’t want to push his luck with my sanity.
